UPDATE: Please note we are now closed on Saturday 13th Sept due to poor weather.
The Wish Tower Friends are excited to share that we will once again be taking part in Heritage Open Days, between 12th and 21st September.
Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture. Running for ten days every September, the festival offers free access to heritage events and activities across England.
As a small group of volunteers dedicated to sharing the Wish Tower’s story and looking after a vital part of Eastbourne’s heritage, we’re delighted to take part in an event which celebrates local history and encourages people to visit.
Our regular open days, architectural tours, and school visits this year have already been a hit – we’ve already welcomed over 2,700 people to the Tower, and the generous donations from visitors are allowing us to carry out much needed repairs and maintenance to the Tower. Read more in our most recent update.
The Wish Tower will be open for eight FREE events over the duration of the Heritage Open Days festival:
Self-guided open days

- Saturday 20th
- Sunday 21st
Between 1 and 4pm on these days, the Tower will be open for self-guided tours. We have a stunning view from our rooftop, a spooky basement, and stunning architecture to check out. The Wish Tower Friends will be on hand to answer any questions you have.
No pre-booking is required.

Architectural tours
- Friday 12th
- Friday 19th
Both days will feature two tour slots, each lasting approx. 90 minutes – one running from 12 – 1.30pm, and a second running from 2-3.30pm.
On each of the four tours, the Wish Tower Friends will take you on a guided visit around our Napoleonic-era Tower, highlighting the many fascinating architectural features. We’ll talk about the design inspiration for Martello Towers, unique features of our own Tower 73, and how our Tower has changed over the years.
Pre-booking for the tours is essential – book online via our website.
See you there!
We can’t wait to welcome you to the Wish Tower!
All of our events are free to attend. Any donations are enormously appreciated, and will be used to help us look after an iconic part of Eastbourne’s history and share the Tower’s history. You can donate in-person when you visit via either cash or card, or online.
Before and after the Heritage Open Days events, we also hope to continue our open days. Make sure to follow us on social media – Facebook, Bluesky and Instagram – for updates.
